Livestock Property Caretaker (7014)

We are seeking a Property Caretaker in Ann Arbor, MI to oversee the care and security of around 75 acres. We are looking for someone who will be interested in a live-in position with housing provided. This is an operating CSA/beef production farm with a full staff during the day. You will be assisting other team members during the day with gardening, mowing, simple repairs, and any help needed with the livestock. Experience with animals is preferred. Qualified candidates must have good communication and organization, be a self-starter, have problem-solving abilities, be a team player, and have flexibility. We are looking for honest, dependable people invested in the farming lifestyle. Applicants must work well with minimal supervision, follow directions, and be comfortable working odd hours during calving and lambing seasons.
Responsibilities: Helping out with care of small farm animals that include horses, sheep, goats, chickens, and cats. - Grooming horses - Monthly flea and tick care - Assist in veterinarian visits Assist in property management and maintenance. - Mowing - Clearing snow or debris when needed - Watering plants in greenhouse This job also requires being the first responder for emergencies on property and maintaining control until the proper staff member has arrived. - After hour duties include o Bottle feeding lambs during season. o Assisting in birth as needed during calving season. § Not responsible for animal medical care, only to assess situation and call the correct person. o Checking generator during any power failure. o Checking walk-in freezer during any power failure. o Alert Cattle Manager if cattle get out. This is not a complete list but are examples of ‘emergencies’ that might require after hours attention. The candidate is not responsible for solving these issues, but alerting those who will. Qualifications: - High school diploma or equivalent preferred. - Experience using equipment such as lawnmowers, 4-wheelers, and snowplow. - Must have driver’s license (Required)- Ability to work alone, make good decisions, and also be able to work with other people. - Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the job which includes lifting and carrying repetitively up to 50lbs, push/pull/drag up to 100lbs, and walking/standing for 8-10 hours per day. - Able to work outside in year-round weather conditions including heat, cold, snow, and rain.
