Job Description and Duties

This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by providing a variety of semi-skilled maintenance and repair activities in support of the Richmond Campus Laboratories which will include the following: Cleans, maintains, and repairs building fixtures and equipment, including locks, windows, doors, gutters, drains, shelving; replaces light bulbs and fuses; makes simple furniture, cabinet, asphalt tile, and linoleum repairs; assists in maintaining and repairing electrical lines and fixtures; assists in lubricating, regulating, and repairing sewage, water, cooling, and heating system lines and equipment; assists in repairing roofs; assists in repairing plaster and concrete; assists in painting buildings and equipment.

The incumbent works under the supervisor of the Supervisor of Building Trades.

This position qualifies for Pay Differential 409 Greater Bay Area Recruitment and Retention, which provides an additional 5% pay above the base salary per month.

The position requires a completed medical clearance screening prior to appointment.

This classification is subject to the Post and Bid process. Applications from a certification list, transfer change in class, reinstatement, re-employment, and training and development assignment candidates will be accepted for this position but consistent with the MOU/Bargaining Agreement BU12 contract cannot be acted upon unless the Post & Bid process does not result in a hire.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

• Experience performing general building maintenance, repairs, and preventive maintenance.
• Knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and building systems.
• Experience inspecting and maintaining facility equipment and safety systems.
• Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.
• Experience with gas cylinder handling, piping, or similar equipment.
• Ability to troubleshoot problems and complete minor repairs independently.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to complete work orders, inspection logs, and other documentation accurately.
• Ability to follow safety procedures and maintain clean, organized work areas.
• Ability to work collaboratively with maintenance staff, engineers, warehouse staff, and contractors.
• Dependable, safety-conscious, and able to prioritize multiple assignments.
